DC Leisure embraces dance craze at Fleming Park
ZigZag interactive fitness solutions has kitted out the site, in Eastleigh, Hampshire, with 12 of its Xer-Dance platforms, the most advanced fitness-based dance system available in the UK.
The wireless system can run three levels of difficulty simultaneously, allowing all dancers to feel comfortable with their ability and have fun at the same time, whilst catering for all age ranges and music tastes.
Jo Cook, Marketing Manager at Fleming Park said: “We recognise the need to provide activities outside traditional sports and dance mats are going down a storm in arcades and homes across the country. Now we have the opportunity to provide platforms in a leisure environment, featuring a variety of fitness workouts including fat burner, interval and steady, so that local children can benefit from an all-over body workout while their minds are distracted by a game!”
DC Leisure kicked off the Xer-Dance sessions with a week-long launch, offering free taster sessions to the local community. ZigZag also supplied its Makoto triangular combat arena and Cybex Trazer movement tracking and virtual reality game for the extended launch, which took place in the leisure centre’s café area. The Sports Development Officers (SDO) for Winchester and Eastleigh, the Partnership Development Manager (PDM) for the centre’s local schools and the Client Officer for Eastleigh Borough Council attended the launch week, along with DC Leisure’s Sports Development and Fitness Managers and representatives from the Sports and Physical Activity Alliance (SPAA).“We will be working with our PDM to offer dance sessions for as many school children as we can,” said Jo. “As well as providing sessions within the centre we hope to take the mats into local schools for one-off sessions and for courses.”
Fleming Park already runs the MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition...Do it!) programme, which offers fun, effective and practical lifestyle solution for families with overweight or obese children, and the Xer-Dance platforms will be used for the programme’s exercise sessions. Fleming Park also works closely with its GP referral scheme, Healthworks, which has expressed an interest in using the platforms for its patients.
“Although we will be running parent and child sessions at weekends, we hope to offer adult only sessions in the future too, as well as classes for our over 50s. But for now we intend to concentrate on junior courses, holiday activities and birthday parties,” said Jo. “A lot of people are keeping an eye on the mats and so we will look to extend them into other programmes as soon as we are able!”
