ZigZag acquires ActivKids to get more children, more active Two children’s activity companies have joined together to offer a complete solution to getting more children, more active, more often.ZigZag fitness solutions has acquired ActivKids, a curriculum linked activity programming company that delivers more than 200 classes to primary school children across the country every week. The buy-out is a natural move for ZigZag, completing its ‘total solutions’ package.  ZigZag, part of the PTE plc group, already offers a full range of traditional and interactive fitness equipment backed by REPs accredited training and programming, as well as turnkey marketing solutions.  The ActivKids link means ZigZag will also be able to deliver activity programming and training to cover the national PE curriculum for Key Stages 1 to 4.ActivKids was set up in 2002 to deliver fun and energetic fitness activities that motivate and inspire kids to create healthy habits.  The programmes are endorsed by the Professional Development Board of the Association for Physical Education (AfPE), and in many areas ActivKids coaches are covering PE lessons during teachers’ planning, preparation and assessment (PPA) time, as well as leading pre school, lunchtime and after school sessions. Fergus Ahern, Managing Director of ZigZag said:  “We want to ensure that ZigZag can offer a total solution to children’s activities, both in schools and community settings, such as leisure centres, so its important that we can provide programming to compliment our equipment based classes.  The ActivKids link will ensure that teachers and instructors have access to a full timetable of activities to support the PE curriculum.” ActivKid’s two-day training course has also been awarded 16 Continuing Professional Development points (CPD) by the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) and is mapped against Level 3 Instructor requirements, as well as attaining a Level 2 Vocational Related Qualification (VRQ) with Active IQ.   James Porter, Founder of ActivKids said: “We need to ensure that coaches understand what makes kids tick and what emotional and physical challenges they face at different ages.  It’s a lot more than a qualification, it’s about participation, enjoyment, confidence and self-esteem, and we can bring this experience to ZigZag through our links across the country.”
